Grounding Ourselves in Uncertain Times: Finding Stability While Taking Action

I’ll be honest—I haven’t posted in a while. Every time I sat down to write, the weight of everything happening in the world made me pause. How do you inspire and uplift when so many people (myself included) are feeling drained, frustrated, or downright hopeless?

But then I remembered: this is exactly why grounding is so important right now.

When the world feels like it’s spiraling, when the news is exhausting, when we feel powerless to change the bigger picture—grounding is what brings us back to ourselves. It’s what reminds us that no matter what’s happening externally, we have the ability to create stability within. And from that place of inner strength, we can rise and take action.

This isn’t about turning away from what’s happening. It’s about finding ways to stay present, to stay strong, and to keep fighting for what’s right—without losing ourselves in the process.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, here are some grounding practices to help you recenter, recharge, and step into your power.

Reconnect with the Earth

One of the most powerful ways to ground yourself is by connecting with nature. Walk barefoot in the grass, place your hands on a tree, or simply take a deep breath of fresh air. Nature is steady. It’s always there, reminding us that we, too, are resilient. When we feel powerless, the Earth reminds us of our roots—our ability to stand strong, to grow, to heal, and to persist.

Breathe with Intention

Overwhelm can make us feel like we’re drowning. One of the simplest ways to pull yourself back into the present moment is through your breath. Try this:

  • Inhale deeply for four counts
  • Hold for four counts
  • Exhale slowly for six counts

This calms the nervous system and helps you reset so that you can move forward with clarity instead of panic.

Channel Your Energy Into Action

Feeling grounded isn’t about standing still—it’s about standing firm so you can move forward with purpose. Instead of letting the weight of the world make you feel helpless, use that energy to take action. Here are some ways to get involved:

  • Support grassroots movements – Donate, volunteer, or amplify the voices of organizations fighting for change.
  • Educate yourself and others – Read, listen, and share knowledge about what’s happening and how to help.
  • Show up in your community – Attend protests, sign petitions, call your representatives, or support mutual aid efforts.
  • Use your gifts and platform – Whether it’s writing, creating art, organizing, or simply having tough conversations, every skill can contribute to the revolution.

Grounding isn’t about disengaging from the fight—it’s about strengthening yourself so you can keep going.

Move Your Body

Action doesn’t always have to be political—it can also be personal. Moving your body helps release stagnant energy and process emotions. Whether it’s yoga, running, dancing, or stretching, movement reminds us that we exist beyond our worries. It brings us back into our physical form, allowing us to reset and regain our strength.

Hold a Grounding Object

Sometimes, having a physical anchor can help us feel steady in the chaos. Some powerful grounding crystals include:

  • Black Tourmaline – Absorbs negativity and creates energetic protection.
  • Smoky Quartz – Helps transmute stress into grounded action.
  • Red Jasper – Strengthens endurance and resilience.

Keep one in your pocket, hold it during meditation, or place it somewhere visible as a reminder of your inner stability.

Create a Daily Grounding Ritual

Staying grounded isn’t something we do once—it’s a practice. It’s about finding small moments of stability in the middle of the storm. This could look like:

  • Drinking your morning tea mindfully.
  • Journaling your thoughts and intentions.
  • Meditating before bed.
  • Placing your hands on your heart and taking a deep breath before facing the day.

Find something that centers you, and commit to it. These small rituals create a foundation of strength that allows us to keep pushing forward.

The world may feel unstable, but that doesn’t mean we have to be. We can’t always control what’s happening around us, but we can control how we care for ourselves and how we show up in the fight for justice, equality, and a better future.

Staying grounded doesn’t mean ignoring what’s happening—it means creating the strength to keep going. To keep fighting. To keep believing in something better.
