The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
As the leaves started to change and I embraced the cozy spirit of fall, The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore was my first pick for the season, and it certainly set the tone. This sweet, easygoing romance was exactly what I was looking for to kick off my fall reading: warm, inviting, and filled with all the cozy autumn vibes I craved.
The story takes place in a small town, and the setting is as comforting as you’d imagine—picture a quaint café, crisp autumn air, and the scent of pumpkin spice lattes floating in the background. The characters are charming, and the storyline, while simple, is undeniably heartwarming. If you’re in the mood for a light, no-stress read that feels like wrapping yourself in a blanket on a chilly fall day, this book hits the spot.
That being said, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars. While I enjoyed the sweetness of the story, it wasn’t a standout or particularly memorable read for me. The plot was fairly straightforward, and the characters, though lovable, didn’t leave a lasting impression. If you’re looking for something with more complexity, a deeper emotional journey, or a layered plot, this one might not fully satisfy you. The simplicity was part of its charm, but it also left me wanting a bit more substance to really sink my teeth into.
However, if your goal is to dive into something cozy and uncomplicated, The Pumpkin Spice Cafe does the job beautifully. It’s perfect for those days when you just want to relax with a book that doesn’t demand too much from you—something sweet and fun to ease you into the season. It was a nice way to start my fall reading, and I’m looking forward to continuing with more books that capture the spirit of autumn in different ways.
I’d recommend this one to anyone in the mood for a light, feel-good, seasonal read. If you’re ready to indulge in some pumpkin spice vibes, you’ll find yourself right at home. But if you’re after a deeper or more complex story, you might want to look elsewhere. Overall, I liked it, and it’s left me more excited to continue exploring cozy fall reads this season!
